Heartbeat detect twins?

My last period was June 21st and I've already went to my family doctor and got the bloodtest to confirm I am pregnant. I have an appointment to meet an OB/GYN August 17th. I am wondering if by then I can hear the heartbeat, or atleast see it on the sonogram and if that could tell if I am having twins, which run in my mothers and fathers side of the family.
