Why do so many American posters here act as though all other countries were like Haiti or Somalia?

Seriously, with the comments I hear about other rich, free democracies, you would swear that America were the only country with freedom and that all other nations functioned on the same level as Haiti or Somalia? How can people who have been taught how to read and write think such things about nations such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Israel, Ireland, Switzerland, Norway.....? It makes no sense. I hear that all of those countries are "socialist," "backwards," "their healthcare is Third World," "the people have no freedom there".....where does this come from when a simple look at an almanac can tell you the per-capita income, life expectancy, infant mortality, GDP, unemployment rates, literacy rates of the other developed nations. Where does this widespread ignorance of other societies come from? Does it booster national pride to believe that America is unique and that every country in the world is as bad as Somalia? You can still be a proud American and realize that there are other countries that merit praise as well.
